Parent Kid Books about fatherhood

What is fatherhood?

A father is traditionally the male parent of a child. Like mothers, fathers may be categorised according to their biological, social or legal relationship with the child. Historically, the biological relationship paternity has been determinative of fatherhood. However, proof of paternity has been intrinsically problematic and so social rules often determined who would be regarded as a father e.g. the husband of the mother. This method of the determination of fatherhood has persisted since Roman times. The historical approach has been destabilised with the recent emergence of accurate scientific testing, particularly DNA testing. As a result, the law on fatherhood is undergoing rapid changes. In the United States, the Uniform Parentage Act essentially defines a father as a man who conceives a child through sexual intercourse.

Be Prepared: A Practical Handbook for New Dads

Take your average guide for new mothers, chuck most of the stuff about breast feeding and ditch the deep background research and stats, then generously pepper with illustrations and burley humor and what do you have? Your average guide for new fathers. Be Prepared follows that template pretty closely, and that's really quite an acceptable thing. Yes, there's a bit too much emphasis here on broadly drawn manly stuff like changing a diaper at a ballgame, but there's also heaps of useful advice that's cleverly and efficiently presented for pops who, despite their best intentions, really aren't prepared to dig into encyclopedia-sized tomes. The basics (childproofing, bathing, feeding, entertaining) intermix with nifty sidebars (homemade bath toys, foods to never give your baby, exercises for dads) in easy-to-peruse chapters organized according to the age of the offspring up to age 1. There are more thorough how-to guides for new dads, but for most men moving into fatherhood, Be Prepared will fill the bill. --Steven Stolder

Keep in Dad's Diaper Bag At All Times
So I bought this book for myself - I am a 33 year old first time Dad. Being new to this, I had no idea really what to expect. I keep this book in my diaper bag in case I am ever alone with the baby and my wife is not around. The book has good tips on how to calm a crying baby and is also written in a fun way - I didn't find it boring, and its about a baby. I really surprised myself as I normally dislike books. I also like how the book is divided into stages, making it a reference for many many years to come.
Wonderful for 1st time dads, and moms too!
This book came in the mail and I was the one to open it. I read it front to back before my husband even saw it. I laughed out-loud about the comments made- it is very real. The handbook style was really appealing to my husband that hasn't been too excited about reading a big parenting book. I definitely encourage new moms and dads to have this in their library!
Letter I wrote to the authors
I thought I would write and let you know that I love your book. My wife hasn't yet delivered, but she will any day now. When she first found out that she was pregnant she dragged me to the bookstore and told me that I needed to pick out a book that would help me with this baby. She picked out a long boring book written by some doctor somewhere, and I luckily found your book. I have already read through it 2 1/2 times since I bought it, and I will probably read it again! It's one of the funniest books I've read, and it gives me so much information that for once my wife thinks I'm intelligent! I just wanted to say thanks for writing such a great book for guys like me who the last thing they want to read about is all the stuff about babies. After reading your book, I feel like I might make it through this!
so perfect for new dads!
I bought this for my husband when I was five months pregnant - he loved it so much I have since given it as a gift to two other Dads-to-be! The advice is funny but also practical - it's a great book!
my hubby loves it!
When my husband and I found out we were pregnant I got this book for him. He really likes it and actually reads it!! It's written in "guy language" with funny comparisons and great ideas. It reminds me of a Maxim magazine for new dads. Enjoy!
