Parent Kid Books about breastfeeding

What is breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is when a woman feeds an infant or young child with milk produced from her breasts, usually directly from the nipples. Babies have a sucking urge that usually enables them to take in the milk, provided there is a good latch, a detached phrenulum, and a milk supply.

Breast milk has been shown to be best for feeding a child if the mother does not have any transmissible infections. Nevertheless, some mothers do not breastfeed their children, either for personal or medical reasons. Some diseases, such as HIV and HTLV-1, which are transmitted through bodily fluids, can be passed through the breast milk, and may therefore preclude breastfeeding in these cases. Some medicines may also transfer through breast milk. However, most medicines are transferred in very small amounts and are considered safe to take during breastfeeding. Therefore most women are not precluded from breastfeeding, and doctors and governments are keen to promote the practice. Nevertheless, many medications are still required by law to be labeled as not safe when breastfeeding.

Many governmental strategies and international initiatives have promoted breastfeeding as the best method of feeding a child in its first year. So does the World Health Organization (WHO) [1] and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) [2] and many others.

Answers all your questions!
I loved this book! I bought this when having difficulty nursing my second baby. After having experience with nursing, I was surprised after 8wks and visiting with a lactation consultant (which cost me $75) I was still having discomfort. I found this book to be a great resource!
Very useful, though hard to navigate
This is a very good reference book for anyone who works in the field of lactation. It is not a book that you should read cover to cover; instead, it is a reference tool.

One downside to this book is that the index leaves a lot to be desired. It is not complete and it is poorly organized. Yes, it is in alphabetical order, but the words they indexed are often not helpful. I generally find I have to go through the TOC to find what I need - something a bit backwards from other reference material.

Other than that, this is well worth the money.

Required resource for lactation counsellor students
Having reviewed more books on lactation than I can list, the breastfeeding Answer Book stood out as the best book for both students and practitioners. The information is easy to access and is set up so that you can use it quickly.

This book is required for several programs at the Global Birth Institute and tends to be out of stock often. If you see the book listed, don't hesitate to order it.

The Breastfeeding Answer Book
This is an excellent, comprehensive guide to breastfeeding management. Up to date, indepth information is literally at your fingertips! The content of this book is easy to work through (well indexed) and well referenced for further research. I would rate the content as 5 stars, but the binding is a bit difficult to work with. The cover wants to pull off the coils with frequent use.
Published with a spiral binding so that it can lay open flat
Now in a newly revised, updated, and expanded third edition, The Breastfeeding Answer Book from the La Leche League International is a thorough and "mother friendly" guide to everything a woman needs to know about breastfeeding, from positioning the baby, to how to wean their infant at the right time, to dealing with possible difficulties such as newborn jaundice. Published with a spiral binding so that it can lay open flat when the reader is busy with both hands, The Breastfeeding Answer Book is an exhaustive, thorough, accessible, reliable, highly recommended resource for all new mothers seeking to successfully breastfeed their babies.
