Parent Kid Books about breastfeeding

What is breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is when a woman feeds an infant or young child with milk produced from her breasts, usually directly from the nipples. Babies have a sucking urge that usually enables them to take in the milk, provided there is a good latch, a detached phrenulum, and a milk supply.

Breast milk has been shown to be best for feeding a child if the mother does not have any transmissible infections. Nevertheless, some mothers do not breastfeed their children, either for personal or medical reasons. Some diseases, such as HIV and HTLV-1, which are transmitted through bodily fluids, can be passed through the breast milk, and may therefore preclude breastfeeding in these cases. Some medicines may also transfer through breast milk. However, most medicines are transferred in very small amounts and are considered safe to take during breastfeeding. Therefore most women are not precluded from breastfeeding, and doctors and governments are keen to promote the practice. Nevertheless, many medications are still required by law to be labeled as not safe when breastfeeding.

Many governmental strategies and international initiatives have promoted breastfeeding as the best method of feeding a child in its first year. So does the World Health Organization (WHO) [1] and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) [2] and many others.

Fantastic reference!
This book is a wealth of information for the mother who is, or plans to be, nursing a toddler. Unfortunately, in our society, most of us do not have several female elders to guide us through the ins and outs of what Americans consider "entended" nursing. Lucky for us, we have La Leche League and this book!
A wonderful book
I nursed all four of my children as toddlers and delight in recommending this nurturing book. While long-term breastfeeding becomes more popular in the US, Europe and Canada, there is still some confusion and unease about the topic. This book provides a reassuring nod to all mothers who are breastfeeding their toddlers. Filled with practical tips, real-life stories, quotes from experienced mothers and glorious photos, it is a joy to read.

Handy pointers about typical toddler-feeding issues such as that annoying twiddling, handling your child's verbal public request to nurse, dealing with critics, night-nursing and weaning.

If you currently are nursing your toddler, or if you are considering the journey, this book is worth owning. I have included a recommendation for it in my new book, Gentle Baby Care: Essential Tips for Raising Your Baby.

Boring
This book just wasn't helpful. I am nursing a toddler, i thought the book was too technical. I didn't learn any new information from the book. In my opinion there wasn't any info about mothering.
Great book!
This is the only book I found on nursing toddlers and I loved it! I know I am not the only extended nursing mother in the world, but I am the only one that I know personally. This book really helped validate my concerns regarding extended weaning. Great for any mother currently nursing past one year or thinking about it.
Wonderful book!
I now feel prepared to enter a new phase in my child's life, as a nursing toddler. This book is a God-send for parents who have never been there and don't have anyone else to turn to.
Lots of great information on nursing in history and in other cultures
